2 weeks ago i was once again doodling random shapes and colors, and as usual things didn't work out the way i wanted. A while after i had given up on what i was doing, i reopened the document and started detailing a small piece that did satisfy me. It had the shape of a long forgotten idea and then it struck me, i must repaint this concept ! At first i wanted to start over from scratch, but things worked out so well with the doodle i didn't want to trow it away so i didn't and spent about 2 weeks to get things right. It's a painting about feelings and memories i hold very close to my heart. There was a time we were making decoration for the legendary Dance-a-Delic happenings. Those were the best times of my life... now i sound old don't i ? For those that remember these parties, this painting is a tribute to (for me) the best party we ever trew, the summer of 2003, and the theme was 'voodoo'.

For those interested, u can find a lot of pictures from that year when u open a search engine and type in: dance a delic pictures. Many thanks to the uploader. I enjoy those very much.

So here's how the final image looks in the year 2013. A lot of experience later but still as vivid as i remember, i present my long lost love... the voodoo crew. I can safely say this is how i always meant it to be, i just lacked the proper skills to make it so : ) Now that i come to think of it, this must have been almost the exact same time we started making decoration for the party 10 years ago. hmm.

After a (way too ) long time being not all that productive, it's time to re-ignite my spark. Hopefully the flame keeps burning long enough to make a few mre posts after this one. This picture started out as a random sketch starting from a 3 point perspective cube. In the end the sketch turned out to be a wonderfull creature looking like a giant sliver. While i was checking my magic cards, i got influenced by the colors of the eldrazi. My goal with this image was to stay away from the usual way too brown colors. I really feel good about some area's of the painting, especially where the details come out sharp, but as usual the environment was the last thing to work on and just got enough attention to finish the concept. I'll try to force myself to go at it again because this time i know what i must do to make it right

Not all dark things are evil. Even at swampy locations where dead animals are rotting on the banks of the pool because they drank from the water, there will be tender things to notice. And yes even there u will find the most colorful butterflies. Not that i soon plan to draw those... i'm just saying...

I guess i have a thing for women with claws climbing trees the same way some guys like tanned busty females on the hood of a sports car. It's slowly becoming a theme and i think i'll keep it up for a while too. Every piece i make brings progress and that's a good thing. I liked how she turned out but as always the background is not what i had in mind. I made several passes but none of them where worthy to be seen alone. When i have a background issues i tend to finish things up quicker than i'd like because not finishing at all feels worse.Dreamphaserhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05229454896931916636noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2921360079273222718.post-3476709365857850792012-10-25T01:31:00.002-07:002012-11-13T09:37:30.564-08:00Doom

Everyone has nostalgic moods i suppose, last week mine was about doom. I
loved played and edited the game for a very long time. I was browsing
the web for some art but i didn't find that much hell knight fan art,
maybe i didn't look for it long enough but it made me think that i
should do some myself. Back in the days it wasn't all that obvious to
have fan art at all, especially not so widely shared as it is right now.
So i'm gonna share the hell out of this one since the game deserves
more fan made art : ). I present to u my interpretation of the
hellknight's pixels, because that's all i based the painting on. I
wanted to stay as true as possible to the design and feel of the
character.

edit : the sprite :)

More of the same but with more thought. They started out as random concepts but i have now decided to use them for my project. One of my favourite things to do when i'm out of inspiration is searching for and making interesting brushes. This time i found some that i already made long ago. Just to change the way i usually start drawing, i started off with a black background and so the white followed naturally. Before i knew it i was doing dark creatures again, it's definitely one of the most pleasant subjects to draw, with or without inspiration. These where done with the brushes i found scattering them all over the page, then trying to find recognizable shapes and turning those into beings. It's designing without thinking.

I love winter for its clouds, i love rain for its noise and i love dark things for the warm and cozy feelings they bring along with them. I sure wish my yard had undead skeletons walking in it. I'd love to see the rain fall on their bare skulls pouring down onto their swords ending up in the dirt... I see a dead dog or cow... floating around at shoulder height...not so active, just floating... sure, in my yard. Feel free to make of it what u want. u can see the rest of em at my deviantart page HEREDreamphaserhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05229454896931916636noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2921360079273222718.post-15983572647045341892012-09-28T12:01:00.001-07:002012-09-28T12:01:35.996-07:00Blood, guts, demons, torture...

I haven't got much to say about this image. It all went smooth till it was 90%, then i stopped working on it for some reason. Maybe i wanted it to be more than it became. I finished it to finish it. Some day a true action piece of this kind will emerge...dynamic poses, flying guts, splattering blood and expressions in the faces of the tortured. At least the demon is already enjoying it : )Dreamphaserhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05229454896931916636noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2921360079273222718.post-51304571316385249912012-09-27T08:09:00.001-07:002012-09-27T08:09:57.788-07:00The Witch

Finished, and almost the way i wanted it to turn out. Dark, green, foggy, but a little less detail in the background than i would have liked. I still need to work on my environments. My next piece should have improvements there.Dreamphaserhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05229454896931916636noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2921360079273222718.post-79587125817284374652012-09-16T13:07:00.000-07:002012-09-17T00:29:44.257-07:00500My project (which i haven't given any official name yet) is beginning to
take on a solid shape. Storyline and concepts are slowly getting in
place. For the last couple of months i've been sorting out every drawing
i ever made that could lead to inspiration for my project. Today i was
glad and proud to have scanned the 500th piece which is probably the last one. I hope this
database of inspiration will be used often, it seems i had more than one
good idea when i was younger. Everything is now decently put in stock
and now the creativity and the sorting can begin. When i was going through all of that older stuff i came across this witch and i became tempted to make a copy of it with modern age tools. I redrew the whole thing in the exact same pose because i really like how motivated she's pursuing... well...who knows what.
I can't exactly remember when i first made this, i never really kept the date on drawings. Good thing the computer now does this for us. So what i'm trying to achieve is a dark (as usual) swamplike environment that she's crossing hunting down her target (which i'm gonna leave out). It is a She, but i want her to have some manlike features, strong arms and an evil grin. I hope to get the poisonous look later on when i'm doing the color adjustments. I'll post the final image when it's done.Dreamphaserhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05229454896931916636noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2921360079273222718.post-37012495189624199942012-09-13T13:28:00.000-07:002012-09-13T13:31:14.299-07:00Game Project

A while ago i had the pleasure of doing most of the artwork for a game called Deadly Dungeons for the android. The project was in the more than capable hands of Jacob Ensign. For this game i did the texturing, concepts for monsters, items, interface and skillbuttons. I had a lot of fun working on this beauty, there was a nice and steady workflow, great communication and tasks where well within my range of skills. I would be more than happy to take on another project like this. Site:
A speedpainting where i tried to keep my brushsize large for the most part. My goal here was to not get into details and keep it as intuitive as possible. Blocking in shapes, light it, minor details, done.
I'm gonna try not to ramble too much about my personal feelings and experiences here in this blog that don't relate to art. My hope is that people will come here for art and that little bit of extra info. I'm not a good writer anyway so i'll keep it short and simple. I will however try to describe my work or how it came to be.
The image above started out as a minor sketch with arms that changed into spikes and bones that later on transformed into the beaks that they are now. I've put it up here because i really like how it turned out. This concept may end up in my personal project after all, but more on that later.Dreamphaserhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05229454896931916636noreply@blogger.com0
